Description

This is not your ordinary Bristol 40. Every aspect of this Bristol has been carefully examined and either refit, redesigned and/or reengineered with the sole intention of taking this sailboat cruising. Of course you will still find the long overhangs, lovely sheerline, low freeboard, and narrow cabin trunk that make the Bristol 40 such a beautiful yacht. The current owner, being an engineer by trade, has made major improvements to an already successful cruising design. He has redesigned the rudder to make it more efficient going through the water. He has completely insulated the interior hullsides with 1/2 " of urethane so the interior stowage stays dry. He has added a water tight crash bulkhead forward. He has redesigned and fabricated a new dual bow roller. He disassembled the windlass had the interior components powder coated and reassembled for added reliability. The list of improvements is extensive. He even assembled a complete engine repair kit that includes every belt, hose, gasket and/or seal that you will need to repair the engine in the middle of a crossing. KOKUA III" 's cruising gear also includes a wind vane, solar panel and storm sail and 75 lb. storm anchor. This sailboat has new bottom paint and a current survey. Interior Layout and Redesign

Entire hull above cabin sole insulated with ½” polyurethane foam and glassed over with two layers of F/G cloth, epoxy coated and painted to prevent any condensation, provide thermal insulation, noise dampening and additional strength.
All inside walls are light birch with dark stained mahogany trim. All doors, drawer faces and table faces are solid mahogony gloss varnished. Cabin sole teak with holly strips satin varnished. All floor boards are latched securely.
Split water tight anchor locker for chain and nylon rode. Watertight aluminum hatch (opens from forward cabin).
Large double V-berth with removable insert (stored in special overhead brackets) with 4” foam cushions. Large storage lockers underneath. Insulated 40 gal. integral water tank with interior epoxy coating (2001). Electric pump for deck wash down. F/G 25 gal. holding tank under port bunk.. Six side lockers with doors above V-berth. Several large drawers and lockers on port and starboard sides.

Four 6V Rolls batteries (105 Ah each) located under chart table seat port to provide ample 12V power controlled with Link 20 monitor. Two 75W Siemens Solar panels provide sufficient power to run refrigerator without the need for shore power!
Chart table with comfortable secure seat while heeling holds 6” stack of charts. Three lockers behind and 4 deep drawers below (silverware and utensils for galley).

Engine and Mechanical

Original engine was replaced with new Westerbeke 3cyl. 33hp engine in 1994 Fresh water cooled with oversize (85 Ah)Balmar alternator. Original alternator overhauled as spare to fit existing bracket. Engine hours approx. 1500 in superb condition.
Fresh water flush system installed to engine intake.
Complete sets of spare parts incl. water pump, impellers, zincs, belts, hoses, gaskets, seals, filters, etc. for engine.

Deck, Sails and Rigging

New anchor platform with two heavy duty anchor rollers and chain stopper. 44 lb. Bruce anchor with 250 ft 5/16” proof coil galvanized chain. Separate 300 ft. 5/8” Nylon rode with 30 ft 5/16” chain.
Simpson Lawrence 555 two speed manual anchor windlass rebuilt, black anodized and powder coated. Covered chain pipe to deep anchor locker (clean feeding out of chain). Chain color coded for length every 25 ft. Chafe free bow chocks for dock lines and two heavy duty cleats with strong back-up plates.
New double bow pulpit with running lights. Double adjustable life lines and all new stanchions (2001).
Folding deck eyes for tying dingy, life raft or other deck gear. Stainless steel hand rails entire length of cabin top with back-up plates below. Mast safety rails starboard and port 36” high.
Two 4” stainless cowl vent on large F/G Dorade boxes with screens inside. Solar powered 3” stainless deck vent.
Two large custom stainless deck hatches over forward and main cabin with canvas covers. Six custom stainless opening ports with removable screens. Four large custom aluminum fixed ports in main cabin (designed to withstand any wave pressure).
Built-in “Turtle” cover for companionway sliding hatch covered with Treadmaster non slip.
Dodger (Sunbrella Forest Green) with strong frame, window covers. Bimini to cover entire cockpit with attachable side and rear curtains to withstand 30+ winds that can act as water catcher (drains into watertank).
Three 1.5” dia.stainless gallows to support boom and two 75W Siemens solar panels and outboard motor lift.
Outboard motor bracket on stern pulpit. Two 3” cowl vents for lazarette and propane lockers.
New Edson pedestal steering system with compass and autopilot (CPT by Scanmar). Spare Navico autopilot to quickly interchange with CPT.

New boom with internal reefing and outhaul lines (2001).
New oversize rigging wires (2001) with Norseman fittings on lower ends. Insulated backstay (SSB antenna). Running backstays with block-and-tackle.
New main sail with full battens (2004) and three reef points. “Strong” sail slide system for easy raising and lowering of main sail.
Pro Furl jib furling system with 130% Genoa.
